EKC and ICE launch the Zamboni Challenge

East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKC) has partnered with the Kootenay ICE of the Western Hockey League to find the most skilled Zamboni driver in the region.

From eight Zamboni drivers representing eight community groups, one driver will be recognized with distinction as the Kootenay’s Master Zamboni Driver. Along with bragging rights, they will bring home the trophy for one year and be on the plaque at Western Financial Place for years to come.

The winner will be the Zamboni driver with the best time for completing the obstacle course with penalty time added for errors. The winning Zamboni driver will bring home a $500 donation from EKC to be awarded to their community group. Runners up will also receive $250 donations from EKC for their community group.

The first Zamboni Time Trials were held Friday, November 7. The next date is set for Saturday, January 24 and the finals will be Friday, March 13.

EKC has committed $3,250 to supporting eight community groups.

November 7 community groups included:

– Cranbrook Woman’s Resource Centre;

– Canal Flats Youth Group for a Skateboard Park;

– Fernie Women’s Resource Centre;

– Kimberley Early Learning Centre.

EKC urges the communities to support the Kootenay ICE, support community groups and have some fun!
