EKTFC readying for season
The East Kootenay Track & Field Club (EKTFC) is getting ready for the upcoming season by holding registration evenings and indoor practices.
The EKTFC is holding registration nights for the 2016 track season on March 29, April 4 and 5 at the Cranbrook McDonald’s from 4:30 – 6 p.m.
EKTFC will also be starting indoor training for athletes on Tuesday, April 12 and will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays at Gordon Terrace Elementary School until the second week of May.
“The remainder of the season we will be meeting, outside, at the college track, same times and days,” said Jennifer Doll, head coach and club president.
“We are in the process of organizing a two-day Run Jump Throw Wheel, BC Athletics, NCCP course for our older athletes (ages 12 and up), for myself and any other interested people,” she added.

The cost per participant to register for the course with a BCA member discount (need to be BC Athletics coach members) is $76 plus GST. The course registration fee helps to cover the facilitators time delivering, any travel and manuals for instructors.
Student-athletes who participate in this course will have their BC Athletics coach membership registered by the track club when they volunteer or help coach with the club and if they would like to train with the club.
“The club feels that in offering this leadership opportunity, students will gain a community connection with a physical literacy outcome. EKTFC also strives to provide opportunities to support teachers in their schools for track and field tips, training techniques and volunteer opportunities,” Doll said. “This opportunity is ideal for those interested in gaining leadership/volunteer experience while working with children ages six and up, or who would like to coach; we would love to have them.
