ICE unveil 2015-16 regular season schedule

With rumours swirling that the Kootenay ICE could be playing their final season in Cranbrook because of poor attendance to games, the Western Hockey League club has released its 2015-2016 WHL regular season schedule.

Club GM Jeff Chynoweth today announced the ICE will open their 18th season in the East Kootenay at home at Western Financial Place on Friday, September 25 against the Calgary Hitmen.

The ICE will play a 72 game schedule (36 at home and 36 on the road) concluding Sunday, March 20 in Calgary.

Kootenay will play their Central Division rivals a total of 34 times, with seven matchups each against Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Red Deer. The ICE will face Edmonton six times. Kootenay will take on the East Division clubs (Brandon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, and Swift Current) four times each (two at home, two on the road).

The ICE visit the five B.C. Division teams (Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George, Vancouver and Victoria) once each. Kootenay will face Spokane five times (three at home, two on the road) and host the four other U.S. Division clubs (Everett, Portland, Seattle, and Tri-City) once.
The ICE will play 24 of their 36 home games on weekends (13 Fridays, 10 Saturdays and one Sunday).  Of the remaining home games seven will be played on Tuesdays, four on Wednesdays and one on Thursday.

Home games at Western Financial Place will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday except for Saturday, October 31 (2 p.m.), Thursday, December 31 (4 p.m.) and Wednesday, February 10 (12 p.m.). The lone Sunday home game will begin at 4 p.m.

So come on Cranbrook and East Kootenay hockey fans. It should go without saying how important the ICE are to our region, economically and socially. If you can, dig deep and try to support the ICE to make the point that we want the team to stay in our region. Share season ticket packages with your friends or family to cut down on the cost.

Season ticket packages are on sale now. For more information or to secure your seat, visit the ICE office inside Western Financial Place or phone (250) 417-0322.
