Killer Rollbots edge Barbs for EKRDL title
The Kimberley Civic Centre was abuzz with excitement on Saturday (July 5), as hundreds turned out to watch and cheer on their local Derby Girls skating for the East Kootenay Roller Derby League Championship Bout.
After winning their first bout against Elkford’s Wildcat Brawlers, Invermere’s Killer Rollbots advanced to line up against Kimberley’s Bavarian Barbarians in the second bout of the night to fight for the title of 2014 League Champions.
It was an insanely intense game!
Fans were screaming, cowbells were ringing, coaches were pacing, and derby girls were skating their hearts out.
It was a battle for every point and every jam and every hit counted. The Barbarians played strong and held the lead for almost the entire bout. Then … with four minutes left … just when it looked like the bout was coming to a close the Rollbots dug deep, played smart, and took the win.
The final score was 166-153 and although our Barbs are a little heartbroken, they want to congratulate the Rollbots on their hard-fought comeback
Congratulations to the Rollbots for a game hard-played and for your well-deserved title of League Champions for 2014.
The EKRDL would like to thank their League Sponsors: RollerGirl, Nerd Skates, Columbia Basin Trust, Max’s Place, Western Financial Group and The Rob Stang Team (Rob Stang, Harry G, Lori Boettger).
Thanks so much to all the referees, NSOs, and volunteers, who make amazing derby events like this possible!
See you all next year!
