It’s been 13 years since Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley members began carving an 18-hole golf course on Lake Windermere’s Taynton Bay for the annual Snow Golf Tournament.

Hundreds of ice and snow daring duffers have taken part in the fundraising event, that features 18 holes of golf, with participants playing a Texas Scramble format.

The 13th annual tourney takes place Feb. 1 at Invermere’s Kinsmen Beach, with registration from 11 a.m. to noon at the Station Neighborhood Pub. A shotgun start shortly after noon signals the start of the event.

The tournament always features plenty of colour and more than a few passing tourists, utilizing the WhiteWay or driving across Lake Windermere, have had their warm-climate minds blown by the sight of often costumed foursomes trekking across the ice, often with ATVs or snowmobiles pulling fire pits and barbecues.

In the tournament’s history, the golf Gods have thrown every type of mid-winter weather imaginable at organizers and players – from warm and blustery with polished ice, to deep snow and cold to beautiful and sunny – so dress accordingly.

sgapproachKinsmen Club member Steve Kuffler is once again the grand pooh-bah of the event.

To register a team, please call 250-342-5557 or head to the Station at 11 a.m. Saturday morning (Feb. 1) and register one.

An awards ceremony of sorts takes place at the Station following the tournament, with plenty of prizes to be handed out.
