Panorama opening early

Impressive early snowfall means that Panorama Mountain Resort will open top to bottom a week earlier than planned.

Lifts will turn on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 for a Powder Preview Weekend.

A storm on November 17 delivered one of the largest one-day snow totals in recent years with more than 50 cm piling up at the summit and 30 cm in the village. The resort received another 15 cm on November 24 bringing the season-to-date snowfall to 166 cm and the Upper Mountain base to 80 cm. This means that the renowned Taynton Bowl will be open from day one.

“In the past few months we’ve put in a huge effort to open up Taynton Bowl, extending great lines and making access from the Summit easier than ever. Now Mother Nature has put the icing on the cake,” says Steve Paccagnan, President and CEO of Panorama Mountain Resort. “The quality of the snow will be exceptional for opening day and I’m sure expert skiers and riders will be astounded by the work that took place in the summer.”

According to Marke Dickson, Director of Marketing and Sales, the decision to open ahead of schedule was driven by eager skiers and riders. “Conditions are fantastic across Western Canada right now and mountain people are quick to react when the snow hits as hard as it has in recent days. The feedback was loud and clear: get open.”

Early snow is also driving sales, with numbers well ahead of last year.

After the Powder Preview Weekend full winter operation begins on Friday, December 11.
