Wildhorse Cycling Club Fun Race results

On Sunday June 17, during Sam Steele Days 2012, the Wildhorse Cycling Club held a fun race.

The location was Eagerhills on Chewbacca Rocka and Waterpark trails. After the previous night’s rain the trail was a little slick but made for some great riding. At 10 a.m. the racers started. The pace was extremely fast off the get go and continued throughout the entire race. Hot on the adult’s back tires was the kids’ race. Seventeen kids took part in a 25-minute race on their own course to see how many laps they could complete. By all the accounts, the kids had a blast and were thrilled to receive their custom medals.

The top three men provided the spectators with a thrilling sprint finish that saw Cranbrook’s Jason DeRijk, narrowly edge Kimberley’s Charlie Cooper, with Fernie’s Bob Maudie right behind them for third place. The ladies first place rider was Kimberley’s Cherie Cooper, with Cranbrook’s Hanna Van Der Roest in second place, followed by Kimberley’s Beverlee Murdoch.

Everyone stuck around to enjoy a BBQ afterwards and enjoy the great atmosphere. As well as the prizes for the top finishers there were door prizes and ‘secret race times.’

Wildhorse Cycling Club would like to give a huge thank-you to all of the volunteers and sponsors who made this event possible. We look forward to seeing you on July 22 at Eagerhills for a second fun race. Please go to bikewildhorse.ca for more information and full race results.
