August in the East Kootenay

August went by in a big puff of smoke.

It was one of ‘those’ summer months you hope won’t happen; near drought leading to tinder dry forests, resulting in wildfires.

Kudos to BC Wildfire Service firefighting crews for knocking down potential threats to communities. However, thanks to a terrible fire season in Washington and northern Idaho, the East Kootenay was socked in with smoke for much of the month.

Evident in some of the images, our spectacular mountain/valley panoramas were severely hazed from lung-scratching and eye-watering smoke.

We have a couple of guest images (Osprey in flight and Elizabeth Lake, Invermere) by our ‘festival queen,’ Christine Shaw.

The remaining images in this month’s collection of life going by in the East Kootenay were taken in the following locales: Cranbrook and area; Canadian Rockies International Airport; Fairmont Hot Springs/east side of Columbia Lake/Lot 48; Invermere; Lake Windermere; Fort Steele Heritage Town; Kimberley.
