Blue Lake camp keeps kids active and learning
This summer Blue Lake Centre Summer Camps will provide youth with an opportunity to unplug from technology, explore the outdoors, meet new friends, gain new skills and create memories that will last a lifetime. Now open for registration, summer camps begin July 7 and continue through mid August. Whether kids are new to camping or seasoned veterans, avid outdoor enthusiasts or first time adventurers, Blue Lake has something special in store.
Forest and environmental education are the main focus at Blue Lake and programs are offered in a way that makes exploring the world exciting and hands on. Flexible attendance schedules allow children ages 7 – 13 to stay for as little as three nights up to the entire summer. Three night options provide a good introduction for younger or first time campers. Kids can expect a schedule of fun activities in the outdoors; educational programs, group activities, swimming, canoeing, campfires, cabin unity time and theme days.
Outdoor Youth Leadership programs for youth aged 14-17 focus on developing leadership, communication, risk management, problem solving, trip preparation and wilderness skills. These 12 night programs are designed to teach youth to take initiative, lead, cooperate and repeatedly triumph during challenging situations. Participants will go on a journey of self discovery while learning specific outdoor and leadership skills. This can be a life changing program.
New in 2013, Blue Lake will offer summer day camps in Cranbrook for ages 7-13. This forest and environment focused program will teach children environmental stewardship, survival, navigation and water conservation while exploring their local ecosystems. Games, hiking and hands-on activities will allow campers to meet new friends and gain an appreciation for nature and sustainable living.

As a nonprofit committed to responsible stewardship of forest lands, Blue Lake has been a leader in providing summer camps for more than 20 years. Blue Lake Forest Education Society is a non-profit organization existing for charitable purposes based in the Kootenay / Columbia region of British Columbia. The society’s primary focus is to deliver a variety of experiential education programs to the region’s youth by operating an outdoor school. These programs inspire a balanced ecological awareness and foster social responsibility to one another.
Blue Lake Centre located 26 km West of Canal Flats. This scenic, off-grid facility is self powered using a hydro electric system and solar panels. Amenities include lake access, trail systems, volleyball court, sleeping cabins, log cabins, dining hall, wash house, and the newly constructed luxury Blue Lake Lodge and Training Centre.
