Elkford ready to go Wild this weekend
The District of Elkford is ready to go wild this weekend.
The schedule is set for the second Winter in the Wild, beginning Friday, February 15 and running through to Sunday, Feb. 17.
“It might be cold, it could be snowing, but living in Elkford we know how to have a howling good time despite the weather. So put on your parka and grab your hat and mittens and join us for our 2013 Winter in the Wild celebration. It’s sure to be a fun−filled family weekend you don’t want to miss!” Notes the district’s event poster.
The fun begins on Friday at 6:15 p.m. with the gathering for the ‘Town Procession to Wapiti Ski Hill.’
The procession begins at St. Bernard Catholic Church parking lot (800 Natal Road) (Don’t forget your flashlight!) and heads up to Wapiti where there is a Torch Light Run and fireworks hosted by the Wapiti Ski Club, with fireworks provided by Elkford Fire Rescue. There will also be a bonfire from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wapiti.
At 7:30 p.m. there is the ‘Light up Your Snowman Contest.’ Pre-registration is required. Call 250-865-4015 to register.
Saturday is jam packed with family fun events, beginning with a pancake breakfast from 7 – 11 a.m. at the beautiful new recreation centre.
Then there is: Hockey Day in Canada; Snow Ball Tournament; Sled & Skating Party; Paint Ball; Sleigh Rides; Coffee House/Craft Fair; and a Turkey Toss.
The fun wraps up on Sunday with a Toonie Swim, story time and a preschool pizza party and dance at the recreation centre banquet hall.
