May in the East Kootenay

By Ian Cobb

May seems to make a habit of arriving out of nowhere and then departing even faster.

Green explodes in our valleys and wildlife begins to make the trek up into the mushy, melting mountains.

The days lengthen, allowing more sunlight to do its magic and my inner photographer awakens, like the plant life that springs to crisp life.

This month’s collection of images of life passing by in the East Kootenay has a bit more of a ‘newsy’ feel to it, mostly because the only times I can really get out, it seems, is when news is a-happening.

In May, we had several news photo shoots, including the salvage yard fire in Marysville, power outage in Cranbrook after a delivery truck smoked a power pole outside Canadian Tire and the lazy nimrod display left along Koocanusa following the May long weekend brouhaha and oink-slobber.

The fire shoot in Kimberley involved our friends from Lacombe, Alta., Dave and Ellen, who kindly shuttled us around and hopefully didn’t inhale any of that smoke!

Any way- just the way we saw things pass by in May 2014 in the East Kootenay.

Images are from the Cranbrook area, Kimberley and area, Koocanusa area, an extensive ramble through a rainy Fort Steele Heritage Town and Norbury Provincial Park.
