Sam Steele Days is here!

Sam Steele Days begins tomorrow in Cranbrook.

ssdpancakeflipThe biggest bash of the year for the Key City launches June 13 with a pancake breakfast at Tamarack Mall (8 -11 a.m.)

Businesses in the city will be competing in the Business and Window Decorating Competition during the day. Tucked in around it is By Gone Days art exhibit at the Cranbrook and District Arts Council and helping add fuel to the afternoon is Royal Le Page E.K. Realty Corral Barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

ssdballsofsteeleRunning all weekend at the Kinsmen Quads and Moir Park is the Sam Steele Ball Tournament.

Friday’s fun launches at 7:30 a.m. with the Scotiabank Pancake Breakfast, running until 10 a.m., or check out the Joseph Creek Village Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

ssdproyalwaveThe crowning event for the day is the ultimate crowning event of the year – the selection of Cranbrook’s newest youth ambassadors with the Youth Ambassador Pageant, 7:30-10:30 at Key City Theatre.

A popular aspect of Sam Steele Days is the always enlightening and interesting Festival Gardens, June 14/15 at the Cranbrook Curling Centre. The gardens operate from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Saturday is absolutely jam-packed with events – so many it is easier if you just click http://www.samsteeledays.org/events/ to get the low down.

ssdphiheelsdaveThings get rolling at 7:30 a.m. with the annual pancake breakfast in front of Nutter’s, running until 10 a.m. – plenty of time to have a munch and stake out your favourite location to take in the annual St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino Parade, beginning at 10:30 a.m. By far the largest parade in southeastern B.C., it winds through downtown Cranbrook, terminating at about noon.

And that’s when the events calendar explodes with activity.

Spirit Square/Rotary Park, Baker Park, Moir Park, the College of the Rockies Disc Golf Course, and the Kinsmen Quads, will all be rocking through to 10 p.m.

Dewey’s Pub and Grill will be hosting the Mustache Competition and Server Races from 2-4 p.m. and the always hilarious Weiner Dog Races will take place in front of the Paw Shop, beginning at 1 p.m.

ssdstrongWorld Gym’s 10th annual Strongman Competition will bring the brawn and beef starting at noon next to Spirit Square and will run through to 4:30 p.m.

And Rocky Mountain Logger Sports will once again thrill and amuse in front of High Country Sports between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Sweetheart Banquet and Ball seals the deal on Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Heritage Inn.

The weekend concludes June 16 with four awesome family events, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles with a pancake breakfast that ends at 11 a.m.

fortsteeleactorThen get thee out to Fort Steele for Father’s Day at the Fort (all day) for a host of events and sightseeing.

Or head to Idlewild Park for the Cranbrook Firefighters’ Fishing Clinic, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Finally, try to check out Country Fair in the Park at Spirit Square and in downtown Cranbrook from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
