Santa and Mrs. Claus thrill without the chill during parade
Despite a schedule that defines hectic, Santa Claus and his gracious wife, Mrs. Claus, paid a lengthy visit to Cranbrook Friday, Nov. 30 – headlining the Chamber of Commerce’s 42nd Santa Claus Parade.
Dozens of floats and colourful marching groups, representing a myriad of community organizations and businesses, did the annual tour down Baker Street and around to Rotary Park for Light Up, with Santa and his missus bringing up the tail of the parade.
Missing from this year’s parade, and e-KNOW didn’t hear any complaints about it, was the usual covering of snow – which usually ranges from a dusting to hefty windrows, this year replaced by a light rain that mostly stayed to itself.
It was downright coastal – dare we say slightly warm, in a moist, late November/winter’s delayed kind of way, and many among the several thousand people who attended the annual kick-off to Christmas season carried umbrellas – another rare sight on Santa Claus Parade night.
Adding to the evening’s festivities was the Friday night launch of the Cranbrook Winter Farmers’ Market in the old Super-Valu building on Baker Street. The market also ran all day Saturday.
