An attitude of wellness

Beginning in August of this year, I began a series of short developmental articles on e-KNOW.ca to explore Wellness. These pieces have included:  In conversation: What is health and wellness?   Furthering the conversation on health and wellness; Investing in our health for life; Let’s talk about staying well and Healthy awareness.

In Let’s talk about staying well, I mention three ingredients that are fundamental to our wellness process: awareness, an attitude of Wellness and being proactive. In the next piece (Healthy awareness), I discussed how through awareness we “grow in our knowledge and understanding of a “subject, issue, or situation.” This helps pave the way for us, in terms of the action we take, and with regards to the area of wellness, to stay and/or return to good health and well-being.

Let us carry the conversation to the next important step, by exploring the “attitude of wellness” ingredient in the health formula.  Attitude by definition is “someones opinions or feelings about something, especially as shown by their behaviour.” Our attitude is the foundation upon which everything else in our life grows.

What is your wellness attitude?  Do you think that growing your awareness and having a wellness attitude is worthwhile, that it makes a difference? Or is your attitude casual?  Does your wellness attitude fluctuate? Do you wait for a crisis?  Then when you or someone close to you experiences a health crisis does your attitude change?

Wellness is “physical, mental, and emotional health, usually including a healthy way of living…”  So to have a strong attitude of Wellness means to view life through wellness glasses.  It means we place great value on wellness because we see it as fundamental. We don’t wait until we’re ill or have some other health challenge to make wellness important and a priority in our lives.
