Another ATM stolen at Fairmont

An ATM machine has been stolen from a Fairmont Hot Springs business for the third time in the last seven weeks.

On June 26 at 4:38 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a break and enter and theft of an ATM at a Fairmont Hot Springs business. Police did not identify the business.

Police attended the crime scene and obtained photos, and a copy of the recording of the video surveillance and statements. The surveillance video shows a white pickup truck, possibly a super cab dually Ford F250 or F350, backing into the front parking stalls, next to the glass near an ATM, reported detachment acting commander Cpl. Grant Simpson.

“Two male suspects then appear to look in the window for the ATM, then move the vehicle to the main entrance. The suspects force the sliding doors open with a pry bar and enter the business,” he described, adding, “The suspects are carrying what appears to be a cutting torch in a backpack. The suspects then push on the ATM, probably to determine if it is anchored to the floor. Both suspects turn around and run out but then return, this time without the backpack and the crow bar. They then tilt the ATM forward without much effort and pick it up. Both suspects then leave the business carrying the ATM.”

Police later receive a report that an ATM had been found on the side of Kootenay No. 3 Road. The ATM was seized and processed forensically.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and police are asking anyone with any information regarding this crime to contact them or Crimestoppers where they can remain anonymous.

The first ATM theft occurred on May 7. At 7:48 a.m. police received dispatch of a break and enter and theft that occurred overnight to a business in the 5000 block of Riverview Road, Fairmont Hot Springs.

And on June 5, at 5:58 a.m., RCMP was dispatched to Riverside Golf Course, situated in the 5000 block of Riverview Road in Fairmont, for a break, enter and theft of an ATM.
