City float participating in prestigious parade
The City of Cranbrook float and its new Sweetheart Youth Ambassador team will be participating in a heart-touching event at the Alberta Children’s Hospital next week.
“We are one of a select group to have been invited to participate in the Parade at the Children’s Hospital,” explained Float Committee Chair Jim Wavrecan. “This is a very prestigious invite and we are honoured to participate.“
The parade, which is held the day prior to the Calgary Stampede parade, follows a one kilometre route around the Children’s Hospital as patients line the parade route. Following the parade, the 2016 Ambassador team will join other parade participants and meet with the children, have photos taken and enjoy some fun.
The Youth Ambassadors will also be handing out small gift bags to the children that include colouring books and crayons generously donated by Pacific Coastal Airlines, mustache tattoos from the Sam Steele Society, stickers from the Cranbrook Public Library, and other small items purchased with the funds raised by the Youth Ambassador candidates at the Tea with the Princesses and Sweetheart Banquet and Ball.
Former Sweetheart candidate Devon Rae, who was at the Children’s Hospital last year with her daughter, says the event is one that brings joy to every child along the route. “This is such a magical day for the children, they love the parade and the opportunity to meet the princesses. I am happy our float will be in the parade this year,” she said.
Local residents can watch for the Cranbrook float and Youth Ambassadors Sweetheart Jelena Jensen and Princess Brianna McWhirter during the live TV broadcast of the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 8.
