School zones keep police busy
Cranbrook RCMP officers were kept busy enforcing speed limits in school zones this past week.
While kids got back to school last week, Cranbrook RCMP was keeping an eye on the speed zones in and around the schools in an attempt to educate people and remind them of the 30-km/h school zones.
Cranbrook RCMP set up several radar enforcement zones and noted that 2nd St S in front of Laurie Middle School was one of the “hot spots” for the week.
“Cranbrook RCMP interacted with more than 40 drivers in the school zones alone this past week. About half of those were pulled over in front of Laurie Middle School,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron.
Police also noted that a high number of vehicles were pulled over on 2nd St N. Although Mount Baker Secondary School is on Baker Street, the playing fields back onto 2nd St N. There is a 30km/h zone on 2nd St N between Western Financial Place and 14th Ave.
Several vehicles were also pulled over for failing to stop for school busses.
Cranbrook RCMP will continue to monitor speeds in all school zones throughout the school year, Forgeron reported.
