Chance to win prizes for young artists
By Mike Redfern
Up-and-coming artists from the Kimberley/Cranbrook area will be able to display their works and possibly win prizes when the annual Adjudicated Exhibition for Young Artists opens in the Gallery at Centre 64 on October 25, running until November 19.
Once again a panel of jurors, drawn from among Kimberley’s professional and established artists, will select the artworks to receive cash prizes. These are for first, second and third place plus Honourable Mentions in each age category, awarded on the basis of one prize per every six entries.
There are two age categories, 12 to 18 years, and 19 to 29 years. A maximum of three pieces may be entered by each young artist. Entry forms may be downloaded from the Kimberley Arts Council website at kimberleyarts.com.
The deadline for entries is 5 p.m., Saturday, October 22. A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gallery on Saturday, October 29, to which the public is invited. If last year’s show is any indication, the skills displayed by the young exhibitors will amaze and delight.
