ICE add forward for ninth rounder

The Kootenay ICE, languishing in the bottom of the Western Hockey League’s Central Division, added an experienced forward in a trade today.

ICE general manager Jeff Chynoweth announced the club has acquired 18-year-old forward Jake Elmer from the Regina Pats in exchange for a ninth round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

“With our current roster situation, it was important that we add more depth to our lineup. Jake Elmer adds WHL experience and potential to our club and will get an opportunity to continue his development within our group,” Chynoweth said.

Jake Elmer was selected in the sixth round, 116th overall by the Regina Pats in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. He has spent the 2016-17 season with the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he recorded 12 points (9-3-12) and 21 penalty minutes in 20 games played.

In 17 games played for the powerhouse Pats this season, Elmer, a 6’1”, 175 lb. Calgary product, has six penalty minutes and no points.

The ICE currently have a four win, 13 loss, five overtime loss and one shootout loss record, thanks to being the third lowest scoring team and third most scored upon team in the WHL.

The ICE are in action next on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at Western Financial Place when the Red Deer Rebels come to Cranbrook. Game time is 7 p.m.

The ICE then head to Red Deer Nov. 25 for a re-match at Enmax Centrium.
