RCMP called to 18 collisions since Dec. 3
Winter hit with a vengeance on Sunday morning when a large amount of snow fell on the region.
Cranbrook RCMP was kept quite busy attending 18 separate motor vehicle collisions between December 3 and 6. Highway 3/93 was the hardest hit with six incidents on that stretch of road.
Although no one was seriously injured, resources such as police, fire, ambulance and tow trucks were tied up for several hours tending to these scenes.
Cranbrook RCMP would like to remind drivers to take precautions when driving in the Kootenays in the wintertime. Leave earlier than you normally would to get to where you’re going. When you get to an intersection, wait an extra couple of seconds at the stop sign or after the light turns green in order to ensure all traffic is able to stop safely.
“We all have places we need to be. We all want to get there safely. When you don’t take the weather into consideration and you drive like it’s still fall or summer, it’s not only yourself you are putting in danger, but others on the roadways,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron of Cranbrook RCMP.
