KIJHL action resumes with divisional clash

Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) play resumes this evening following a nine-day Christmas break.

Locally, the Fernie Ghostriders and Kimberley Dynamiters resume their season-long standings battle with a tilt tonight at the Kimberley Civic Centre (game time is 7 p.m.)

The Dynamiters remain in a pitched battle with the Creston Valley Thunder Cats for the Eddie Mountain Division lead. The Cats are currently first with 48 points, on the strength of 23 wins in 32 games. However, the Nitros are snapping at their heels with 46 points, also on 23 wins but in 31 games.

The Ghostriders are chasing the Nitros with 38 points in 30 games (18 wins).

Kimberley heads to Fernie Thursday night (Dec. 29) for a re-match at the Memorial Arena (7:30 p.m. game time).

Fernie heads to Creston Dec. 31 for a match against the Thunder Cats at the Johnny Bucyk Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. MST.

The Columbia Valley Rockies return to action Friday, Dec. 30 with a road tilt against the Golden Rockets, who will be seeking some revenge for the two clubs’ last meeting, a 5-2 Rockies’ win Dec. 17 in Invermere.

The Rockets head down to Invermere for a New Year’s Eve late afternoon clash with the Rockies at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena. Game time is 4 p.m.

The Rockies return to action with a seven win, 20 losses, three overtime losses record (17 points).

The Rockets, with four wins, 25 losses, one tie and two overtime losses remain dead last in the KIJHL.

Nitros coming to Cranbrook

The Dynamiters will be playing at Cranbrook’s Memorial Arena on Friday, Jan. 6, against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. The tilt will be a hotly contested one as the Nitehawks departed for Christmas break in first place in the Neil Murdoch Division with a 22 win, four loss, one tie and two overtime losses record (47 points). Game time is 7 p.m.
