Winter continues to wreak havoc on East Kootenay highways, a day after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 3/95 west of Moyie claimed the life of a woman and left another person in serious condition in hospital.

There was another two-vehicle accident on Highway 3/95 this afternoon.

A black pickup truck lost control and broadsided a white Dodge. The black pickup truck then left the road and rolled. The impact was severe enough that the front tire had broken away from the vehicle. The white Dodge truck sustained extensive side damage (lead image).

Cranbrook Search and Rescue and BC Ambulance Service were on scene. Occupants of the two vehicles appeared okay but shook up and cold. Mainroad Contracting employees kept the occupants warm while additional help arrived. No other details are yet available.

DriveBC reported another vehicle recovery at the Elko Tunnel today, causing a single lane alternating traffic flow. There have been numerous accidents in that area so far this winter driving season.

Highway conditions are likely not going to improve, either.

DriveBC reports winter driving conditions throughout the Kootenays, including black ice on Highway 95A between Kimberley and Cranbrook and Highway 3/95 from Cranbrook to the Highway 93/95 junction along with limited visibility with bowing snow between Fernie and Sparwood on Highway 3. There is also a winter driving alert for Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park.

Slow down and drive to road conditions; which can change in the blink of an eye.
