Cleanup from this weekend’s record breaking snowfall continues in earnest this afternoon, with City of Cranbrook Public Works staff and contractors hard at work helping to get this community moving again.

The city is asking residents to help each other out, by assisting your neighbours with their driveways and sidewalks. The city is asking any citizens who have snow blowers, plows on trucks or quads or if you simply have a shovel and a strong back, to please do what you can to assist us with clearing snow from cul-de-sacs, alleys and sidewalks. Residents are also asked that if they have a fire hydrant near their home, if they could please clear the snow away from it so it is easy for the Fire Department find and access it, if needed.

As snow removal crews continue clearing snow this afternoon, residents are reminded that streets will not be cleared curb to curb. It is important to remember that if you are out driving, be aware that there are many very large windrows and many intersections are tight. Please use caution if you are out and about.

Although BC Transit service is down today, along with city garbage collection – the Canadian Rockies International Airport is still open and operating. Anyone scheduled to travel over the next few days, please check with your airline directly to make sure you aren’t facing any delays or cancellations.

Cranbrook RCMP continues to advise the public to stay off the highways unless it is absolutely necessary.

Environment Canada is calling for an additional five to 10 cm of snow by Tuesday morning for Cranbrook. Please continue to monitor weather forecasts for the latest information.
