Celebrating Kimberley’s watershed

Mainstreams is organizing five stream-side community events celebrating Kimberley’s watershed. Inspired by the success of our Family Water Education Series last fall, we have planned another series this spring to delve deeper into the previous topics. Open to all ages, we will be exploring stream dynamics while enjoying time outdoors together and learning more about our precious local water sources.

Starting May 18, each event will take place on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. Hopefully the whole family can come!

Here’s the schedule in a nutshell; stay tuned for more details before each event.

May 18, 6:30-8 p.m.: Watershed Dynamics- Mark Creek Flume Restoration Tour

May 25, 6:30-8 p.m.: Riparian Explore – place TBA

June 1, 6:30-8 p.m.: Macro Invertebrates – place TBA

June 8, 6:30-8 p.m.: Burdock pull – McKim Trail

June 15, 6:30-8 p.m.: Knapweed pull – RCMP, Mark Creek.

Mark Creek has had a fascinating history, hindered and helped by the humans dwelling near. It is the lifeblood of our town in a multitude of ways.

Climate change will have increasing effects on our watershed. The more we understand the dynamics of our watershed as a community, the better we will be able to prepare for possible future events and appreciate the importance of nurturing a healthy watershed.
