DTSS teacher sexual exploitation investigation updated
In January 2024, Columbia Valley RCMP initiated an investigation following allegations that a teacher at David Thompson Secondary School (DTSS) in Invermere had engaged in inappropriate communication with a student.
After reviewing the evidence gathered during the investigation, the matter was forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service.
On February 13, 2024, the BC Prosecution Service approved three charges against Jason Walker:
- Exploitation for a sexual purpose, contrary to section 153(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;
- Making sexually explicit material available to a child under 18 years of age, contrary to section 171.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
- Telecommunication to lure a child under 18 years of age, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Following a trial that began on September 16, 2025, in BC Provincial Court, Jason Walker was found guilty on all three charges on June 23, 2026.
The Columbia Valley RCMP would like to acknowledge the courage of the victim in coming forward and the strength demonstrated throughout this lengthy process. We also thank all those who assisted throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
