SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of motions carried by School District No. 5 (SD5) School Board of Trustees during the May 15 board meeting in Cranbrook.

Motions Carried

Advocacy

That the Board supports the Rainbow Crosswalk Project at Fernie Secondary School.

That the Board writes a letter of support to Rob Gay, Chair of the Kootenay Boundary Broadband Committee in support of their application to the Connect Innovate Program.

Policy

That Policy 3.20 Summer School Instruction be sent to the Board of Education for deletion.

Student Services

That the board develops a pilot project for K-3 students, one school in the Elk Valley and one in Cranbrook, to implement the intent of Motion R-17-48. TABLED TO SEPTEMBER

Finance Operations

That Mr. Norum researches the cost of installing flashing lights at each of the SD5 schools in partnership with the municipalities and Regional District of

East Kootenay.

That the Board defers the presentation by the Student Services Coordinators to the September Committee meeting.

That the Board approves the mileage rate of .53/km across the district effective July 1, 2017.

General

That the Board accepts the Audit Tender from BDO.

That Second reading* of the Annual Budget Bylaw 2017/18 be carried.

*By law, three readings of bylaw must be completed.

That the board writes a letter to MLA Linda Larson re: the Rural Education Review Process, expressing our dismay at not being listed on the official website as having provided a submission to the Review Process, despite sending two letters to MLA Larson, on January 5 and January 30, and that the board request a correction be made to the government’s website and our board be provided with a copy of the Draft Discussion Paper.
