Rockies rowers enjoy larger body of water
Rockies Rowing Club members took the opportunity to travel to Moyie Lake (north end) on Saturday, May 27 to try on a larger body of water.
Jimsmith Lake is our home and it is less than 1000m long. Moyie Lake is much larger.
The smiles on the faces of the rowers when they returned to the dock after trying out Moyie spoke volumes. Thanks to Kurt Mohr, one of our coaches, who drove the boat trailer to Moyie Lake so everyone could enjoy this adventure.
We acknowledge the efforts of Brian Passey, our club treasurer and boat repairman who designed and built the trailer to move our boats with. As an engineer Brian was able to develop a design that would fit our quad and doubles.
In June we will be travelling to Vernon for the first regatta of the season where our rowers will try 3.5 km Lap the Lake and 500m sprints.
Rowing is a full body, non-weight bearing exercise. You can be a recreational rower where you can experience easy to moderate exercise or a competitive rower where you can experience moderate to vigorous exercise. If you are interested in learning to row we have lessons and if you are a former rower we would love to see you in a boat. We have an adaptive single for working with adaptive rowers. Check our website https://www.rockiesrowingclub.ca/ for contact information.
