Elk Valley RCMP is currently dealing with a spike in petty thefts from unlocked vehicles in Fernie.

Police have responded to several complaints from residents over the last month whose vehicles have been rummaged through over night. Small items, identification, loose change and wallets have all been taken, reported Cpl. Robert Wright of Elk Valley RCMP Detachment.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and park in well-lit areas when possible. Anyone with information on these thefts can contact the Elk Valley RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
