“These projects are necessary to reduce the amount of forest fuels to create a more fire resistive community. Fuels management will consist of thinning the forested areas and chipping the piles. This is being done in order to limit the impact on the community from wildfire,” explained City of Kimberley Fire Chief Rick Prasad.

Projects will begin in zone TU1 and are expected to move to zone TU2 by the end of the week. The zones are outlined in color on the attached map.

For resident and contractor safety, trail access will be limited at times. In times of closure signage and flagging will be in place.

The TU2 and TU1 projects are expected to be completed in August.

All lodgepole pine smaller then 12.5cm in circumference and all other coniferous trees smaller the 17.5 cm in circumference will be removed (with the exception of western larch).

Additionally, contractors will remove: any dead and/or dying lodgepole pine; any dead and/or dying aspen greater than 12.5 cm.

TU1 and TU2 are hand treatments only. Where chipping occurs chipping depth may not exceed 30 cm.

Wildlife trees have been identified by a certified wildlife tree assessor, all high value
wildlife trees will be reserved.

The City of Kimberley would like to thank you for your cooperation, if there are any questions please call the Fire Hall at 250-427-4114 or email us at [email protected]
