Elkford Council News

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the January 28 District of Elkford council meeting.

RCMP presentation of the 2018 fourth quarter crime statistics

S/Sgt. Jeff Harrold presented crime statistics for the District of Elkford, outlining some of the calls for police service within the district during the last quarter of 2018.

S/Sgt. Harrold shared that the RCMP continues to get to know the youth of our community through visits and presentations to local schools. In addition, he noted that there have been increased patrols within town and on Highway 43, with special attention to impaired and irresponsible driving.

Council will consider 2019 policing priorities at a future meeting.

Council supports two proposed Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) bylaws:

Library Grants-In-Aid Service Amendment Bylaw;

Elk Valley Subregion Waste Management Amendment Bylaw.

In order for the RDEK to proceed with the proposed bylaws, consent is required from a majority of the participants of the applicable service. The purpose of amending the Public Library Service Bylaw is to adjust the amount that is granted to Columbia Valley libraries.

The purpose of amending the Waste Management Bylaw is to include mine properties in the service area that were previously excluded from the original bylaw when it was established.
