Winter Storm Warning for Elk Valley

Environment Canada this afternoon (Feb. 11) issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Elk Valley.

Significant amounts of snow and hazardous winter conditions are expected.

“A trough of low pressure south of the Canadian border is intensifying and will slowly swing north into Canada overnight tonight and into Tuesday. The hardest hit region will be the Elk Valley,” Environment Canada stated.

Starting after midnight, heavy snow will develop over the southeast corner of B.C.

“Sparwood is expected to get total accumulations of 10 to 15 cm. However, over Fernie the snowfall will be heaviest and total accumulation of 25 to 35 cm is expected before the snowfall eases later Tuesday afternoon.”

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
