Fawn/doe reunited and male fined
On June 15, Invermere-based BC Conservation Officer (CO) Greg Kruger initiated and investigation after a report that an adult male entered a liquor store carrying a live fawn.
After viewing surveillance footage, CO Kruger was able to determine the identity of the male, BC COS reported on social media.
CO Kruger then located the male at a residence in Invermere where he was still in possession of the fawn. Kruger determined the male found the fawn and believed it to be abandoned.
Kruger took possession of the fawn and drove it to the exact location where the male reportedly found it. Once there, CO Kruger used an electronic call that mimics fawn vocalization. Almost immediately, a mature white-tailed doe ran to the location and was reunited with the fawn.
The male was subsequently charged for unlawful possession of live wildlife.
The COS encourages anyone who finds what appears to be wildlife left on its own, to leave it and contact the COS at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277).
