The British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) has named Mike Campbell as its new Director of Officiating, ahead of the league’s inaugural Junior A season.

Campbell will oversee officiating operations, development programming, performance standards, and department strategy. His leadership will guide the BCHC Officiating identity and ensure consistency, professionalism, and accountability across the league.

An active Western Hockey League (WHL) official and reigning WHL Official of the Year, Campbell brings an extensive resume of national and international assignments. His on-ice credentials include the Olympic Games, IIHF Men’s World Championships, IIHF World Junior Championships, CHL Memorial Cup, Centennial Cup, and experience as an American Hockey League (AHL) referee.

On the leadership side, Campbell served as the Lower Mainland BC Hockey High Performance Lead and is currently a National High Performance Officiating Coach for Hockey Canada. He also serves on the Hockey Canada National Development Team coaching staff and the national assignment selection committee.

“The BCHC is excited to have Mike Campbell fill this important role and help grow our Officiating program in our inaugural season and into the future,” said BCHC Commissioner Jeff Dubois.

“Mike brings tremendous experience as an on-ice official with a long history of national and international assignments and he carries a well-respected leadership voice within the officiating community.”

“This opportunity means a great deal to me, and I’m looking forward to building a strong officiating program for junior hockey officials across the province of B.C. I look forward to supporting and developing our officials throughout the league, helping them grow and achieve their officiating goals not only within the BCHC, but beyond it as well.”

Campbell’s immediate priorities include recruiting and retaining officials across the province, developing an officiating development programme modelled on successful junior hockey frameworks, and building a recognition pathway for officials advancing to major junior, national, and international assignments.

Approximately 185 officials worked provincial junior hockey in British Columbia last year across the league’s predecessor organizations. Campbell will lead efforts to strengthen that base while creating clear development pathways for officials seeking advancement.
