The Whitehouse has been sold
Another Columbia Valley institution is about to undergo a major change.
The venerable Whitehouse Hotel in Windermere has been sold, only a few weeks after Strand’s Old House Restaurant in Invermere closed.
After 40 years serving the community and valley at large, including having raised many tens of thousands of dollars through the White House Classic weekends during the previous three decades, owner Phillip Cleland is handing over the keys to the Sinclair Avenue establishment, one of the oldest standing buildings in the East Kootenay (it is about 122 years-old).
However, the pub is not closing, it is merely changing hands with some improvements scheduled, Cleland said.
“It won’t be closing at all; it’ll keep on running with the same staff and still be the Whitehouse,” he said.
A special night of memories is planned this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 28 at the pub, beginning at about 4 p.m.
Live music will be provided by the amazing cover band ‘Hamburgers on Wonderbread.’
