Obituary for Audrey Pearl Baker
Audrey Pearl Baker
January 1, 1927 – October 6, 2019
Audrey was always amazed when meeting up with someone that still remembered her past. She loved to reminisce about years gone by, the old buildings, dances and restaurants. Audrey was a waitress and received an award for Employee of the Year from the Rotary Club of Cranbrook.
Audrey loved crafts, cherishing her many ceramic plaques and ornaments. She sewed many of her clothes and was an avid knitter. Her sweet tooth inherited from her dad (always referred to as “Daddy”) led to her monthly cookie baking sprees. Audrey was kindly known as the “Cookie Lady”, a cookie was offered to anyone who came to her door. She loved to read and spent countless hours sitting at the window with her cup of tea, a cookie and a book waving to everyone passing her house. After her introduction to the Seniors Day Break Program, her time at the window was replaced by outings with other seniors.
Audrey never liked to feel she kept anyone waiting, thus resulting in a fall that required her to move to the F.W Green Home. She missed her independence, but life in her new “home” was a good alternative. She enjoyed weekly visits from Bud Abbot and friends, later with “Just Rollie” were her favourite times. She loved to sing along.
She is survived by her children, JoAnne Green (Cal), Ron Hrisook (Sherry), John Hrisook (Cathy), her grandchildren John, Cory, Raymond, Troy, Jennifer, Stephanie, Steven, Katrina, and Sophie along with their spouses, partners, her step-grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She loved us all, and a visit would always put a smile on her face.
She was predeceased by her parents Elias Francis Meeks & Norma Mae Meeks, her two brothers Raymond Elias & Rodney Allen Meeks, and her son Edward William Hrisook.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to bake a batch of cookies – share them with your family and friends. “The Cookie Lady” has spoken!
