Obituary for Lillian Myrtle Sandahl

LILLIAN “FAY” MYRTLE SANDAHL (OLSEN)

APRIL 23, 1928 – FEBRUARY 25, 2020

On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, Lillian Myrtle Sandahl (Fay) passed away just after midnight at the age of 91 years. Fay was born in New Westminster, BC on April 23, 1928 and was the last surviving member of her family.

Fay was a great outdoors person and loved to share it with friends and family.  She loved cross–country skiing, hiking, berry picking and being lacrosse mom.  She spent many hours in the beautiful mountains and meadows doing what she loved.  Fay was the ‘leader’ of a hiking group that called themselves the Odd Squad.  Janice Strong often went with them including to a tarn Fay called “my pretty little lake” When Janice Strong wrote her books, Mountain Footsteps she writes about this lake naming it Fay’s Lake.  If one wanted to know about a certain hike, all you had to do was to give Fay a call and she could tell you about it – good and bad.  As a celebration for her 75th birthday, she took the family on a backpacking trip and it became a yearly event. She did this to share her love of mountains with her family while she was still able.

Fay leaves to cherish her memory, six children: Faylee, Carol, Steven, Philip, Roger and Eric as well as 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Fay was predeceased by her husband Norman in 2011.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Fay on Saturday, May 9 starting at 2:00 pm in the Ballroom at Heritage Inn.
