COVID-19 vaccines rolling out in Fernie

Elk Valley Physicians Jan. 11 reported Fernie’s most vulnerable population and care providers are receiving COVID-19 vaccines.

“We are excited that the Moderna vaccine has arrived in Fernie and that our first shipment of doses has been administered to 200 people! Although that may seem like a small number, our most vulnerable citizens in long term care and their care providers were lined up at the start line,” the Physicians reported on Facebook.

“We are so lucky to have caring individuals on the front line doing their part to keep our community safe. We don’t have to look far to see the devastation this virus is causing; 1,010 deaths in B.C. to date. And we are not out of the woods yet, so stay the course, avoid social gatherings, wear a mask and wash your hands.”

The Physicians concluded they are on track with provision of first doses to those in long term care and their health care and front line workers are next up.

“Stay tuned to find out when it will be your turn to get the vaccine,” the doctors said, noting their Facebook page will provide updates.
