Obituary for Mabel Loreen ANSELMO

Mabel Loreen ANSELMO

January 31, 1937 ~ January 7, 2021 (age 83)

Mabel or Babe as a lot of people knew her, was born in Vulcan, AB on January 31, 1937 to parents Conrad and Sarah Bendicson. Babe was the youngest of 11 children – she was the “Babe” of the family. When Babe was 4 years old, the family relocated to Fernie, BC.

At the age of 15, she was severely electrocuted and lost her dominant (right) arm; the first thing she said to her parents after waking from a 3-week coma was, “You need to go get me a pen and paper because I need to learn to write with my left hand.”

With her strong will and determination, she raised 4 children, enjoying many years of being at home with them and being involved in their lives as much as possible.

Years later, she worked as a homecare provider, then started janitorial services in a medical office. She then secured a custodial position in both the old Fernie High School and Ridgemont Elementary until she retired 20 years later.

Babe was a very friendly, soft spoken, and gentle lady who had the love and respect of everyone that knew her. She loved being a mom to her 4 children, her grandkids, her great grandkids, and her great great grandson making her family 5 generations. She thrived when she was in the company of her great grandkids, playing with them and just the sheer joy of watching them play along at large family dinners and events.

Babe is survived by her children: Jane Lansing (Larry), Rick Anslemo (Irene), Tammy Harry (Hank), Melenie Joinson, and Debbie Krall (Lloyd). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Melissa Campbell (Colin), Krista Tessman (Derek), Angela Harry, Rachel Harry, Cory Anselmo (Tamara), Caitlin Anselmo, Thomas Joinson (Kori), Jennifer Joinson, Kelly Krall, Sabrina Neville, Clayton Anselmo and Tyler Anselmo, and great grandchildren Zane, Noah, Alicia, Katie/Harmoni, Emma, Amelia, Kyra, Everett, Lainee, Hailee/Aven, and her great great grandson Allister as well as her sister Dolly Picco of Cranbrook and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward Anselmo, her parents, her siblings, and daughter Donna Joy Anslemo.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or Twin Meadows Animal Rescue (a local organization).

Remember, you are forever in her heart and loved so dearly. To her, “You Are My Sunshine”.
