Obituary of Barry Wayne Johnson

Barry Wayne Johnson

APRIL 26, 1939 – DECEMBER 24, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and dad, Barry Johnson, on December 24th, 2021 in Vernon, BC.

Barry was predeceased by his mother Phyllis, his father Gilbert and his sister Donna. He leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years Maureen, his daughters Karen (Curt), Cathy (Al) and son Wayne, grandchildren Jana (Matt), Gregory, Jason, Allison (Clay), and Cameron (Erin), great grandchildren Adelynne, Hillary, Luca, Anthony, Aspen, Lachlan, Nathan and Daxon, sisters Fern, Patricia, Lynda and Myrna (Dale), brother Ralph (Patricia), sisters-in-law Evelyn (Maurice) and Linda (Ray), brother-in-law Dale, and many nieces and nephews.

Barry was born in Neilburg, Saskatchewan on April 26th, 1939. He joined the army at 16 years old and while stationed in Quebec, he met the love of his life, Maureen. They moved numerous times across the country, making lifelong friendships along the way. Barry had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed a good motorcycle ride and took many trips with great friends. He loved his life on their ranch in Cranbrook, tending the dogs, cattle and horses. When it became too much, he retired and they moved to Armstrong, eventually settling in Vernon.

Special thanks to the medical team at Vernon Jubilee hospital for the exceptional care in his final days.

Due to current restrictions, there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be planned for the spring.

“The measure of a man is not his muscles or money. The true strength of a man is most evident when his soul shines and no one is looking.” – Michael Traveler, author/poet
