Sue Cairns seeks to give back to Kimberley
Sue Cairns says she is running for Kimberley city council in the October 15 election because she wants to serve the community.
“I believe in Kimberley – the people and the natural environment that supports and inspires us. Kimberley is my home; my sons live here and I have lived in the area rurally for 30 years,” Cairns said.
Noting the changing times, Cairns listed affordability, housing, infrastructure and climate change as “core matters that we need to focus on to sustain our quality of life and resilience.
“I believe that our community’s growth and change need to be managed with these at the centre.
“I want to be part of a council that is committed to working on these issues and I see collaboration and partnerships as a really important part of how we move forward as a community,” she said.
“Strong leadership is what we need. I’m committed to do my homework as councillor, to move us toward solutions that are informed by the community.”
Cairns said good relationships are important to Kimberley’s future.
“That includes our non-profit organizations, local businesses and other levels of government. I support strengthening partnerships and collaboration on: affordable housing for residents; economic development for community resilience; core community infrastructure and amenities; and Watershed security and wildfire risk reduction.”
Cairns is a professional forester by training, and for the last 25 years she worked with provincial natural resource agencies and with Indigenous governments.
“I recently retired to make a real and significant contribution to community,” she noted.
In conclusion, Cairns said, if elected, her commitments to council would be: strong collaborative leadership for changing times; connection with people; and help make city decisions that respect taxpayers.
