Snowy Wednesday ahead for region

East Kootenay residents can expect snow to begin falling this evening (Nov. 29) and continuing through Wednesday.

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting reports light snow is forecasted to begin late Tuesday night, with heavier snowfall expected to occur early Wednesday morning in the Cranbrook and Kimberley areas.

Snowfall will continue all day Wednesday and part of Thursday. Accumulations forecasted are between five to 10cm on Wednesday and less than five cm on Thursday.

In the Elk Valley, snowfall is forecasted to begin early Wednesday morning and continue all day Wednesday with accumulations of up to 15 cm. Snow is forecasted to carry into Thursday with snowfall accumulations of up to 10cm.

Panorama Mountain Resort area is expecting less than five cm on Wednesday with light flurries on Thursday. Accumulations are expected to be up to five cm for the rest of the Columbia Valley.

Finally, light snow is beginning late Tuesday night with snowfall continuing all day Wednesday and into Thursday for the Yahk area. Snowfall is expected to taper off Thursday evening. Snow accumulations for Wednesday are expected to be up to 10 cm with accumulations for Thursday forecasted at five cm.

Mainroad Crews are currently out patrolling and applying winter material where needed.
