Fernie boil water advisory downgraded

The City of Fernie has downgraded the Boil Water Notice issued on April 11 to a water quality advisory. Testing shows that water quality has improved to a ‘Fair’ turbidity rating at Fairy Creek.

While the associated health risks are now minimal, the City of Fernie and Interior Health recommend that children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and anyone seeking additional protection drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. For these at-risk populations, water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making juice or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

The City of Fernie is working to resolve unplanned mechanical issues at James White Well and will continue supplying from this water source as soon as possible.

Interior Health has been fully notified, and the public will be advised when the repairs are complete and boil water notice rescinded.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time.
