CVCF to distribute over $120,000 in scholarships
Columbia Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) continues to provide meaningful support to the valley’s youth with more than $120,000 earmarked for scholarships and bursaries this year.
Awards can be applied to accredited educational or training programs and therefore students pursuing further knowledge at universities, colleges, technical and trade schools should all apply.
To fulfill donor wishes, applicants must have spent their formative (K-12) years in the Columbia Valley, defined as the area stretching from Spillimacheen to Canal Flats.
“These awards are not just for new high school graduates heading off to college or university,” explained CVCF Executive Director, Thiloma Hofer. “Community members are eligible to receive awards twice in their lifetime and can apply between the ages of 17 and 35. So, if you have embarked new career and are retraining, we encourage you to investigate this opportunity.”
The Arnold Ellis Scholarships, Bidder Bursary and Erwin Kloos Memorial Scholarship are applicable to any field of study. The Alan J. Witherspoon Memorial Fine Arts Fund provides support to those pursuing a career in the fine arts.
“Past recipients consistently express gratitude not only for the funds that alleviate the financial burden of higher education but also the sense that rest of the Valley is cheering them on,” noted Hofer. “We are grateful to our donors for the opportunity to provide such an important and inclusive program to our community”.
In 2022, the foundation distributed $118,400 in student awards to 37 local students and has distributed over $454,000 in awards since 2006.
The deadline for applications is May 15 at noon.
