Visitor’s dog viciously attacked while in Cranbrook

A weekend getaway to Cranbrook turned into a nightmare for Kelowna resident Jamie Gardner and her beloved dog, Jager.

The four-year-old pug cross was attacked by a large bullmastiff, leaving him with severe injuries and over 100 stitches.

The owners of the aggressive dog were nowhere in sight, leaving Jamie and a friend to fight off the bullmastiff and rush Jager to the emergency vet clinic in Cranbrook.

The staff at Cranbrook Veterinary Hospital were instrumental in helping Jager receive the immediate care he needed.

After recovering from three hours of emergency surgery, Jager was brought home to Kelowna for further treatment. He underwent another surgery and stayed overnight for 24-hour supervision.

The attack has left Jager with severe wounds on his hind leg, stomach, and hip, with a lot of his flesh missing. The vet has warned that due to the severity of his injuries, Jager’s skin may not regenerate properly, and he could require a skin graft.

Jager will have to visit the vet clinic every day to receive the wound care he needs so he can make a full recovery.

Jamie remains unwavering in her commitment to give Jager the care he deserves and provide him with the best possible chance of making a full recovery.

A Go Fund Me has been started to help Jamie pay for Jager’s growing veterinary bills. Any donation, big or small, will make a significant difference in Jager’s recovery. You can visit the go fund me page here.
