Snow possible in Paulson and Kootenay passes

Environment Canada has issued a warning about wet snow being possible on Highway 3 – from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass from today/tonight through Tuesday morning (June 20).

Paulson Summit is located between Castlegar and Christina Lake on Highway 3.

“Wet snow, or a mixture of rain and snow over the passes will create slippery conditions. A cold trough of low pressure over southwestern B.C. is bringing precipitation and lowering snow levels,” Environment Canada stated.

“The snow level near Kootenay Pass has lowered to approximately 1,600 metres with wet flurries or a mix of wet flurries and rain showers possible near Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass.

“Snow levels are expected to rise to near 1,900 metres this afternoon causing precipitation to switch to rain showers at the passes. The freezing levels will once again drop to 1,600 metres tonight with wet snow once again possible near the highway passes.

“Travellers are advised to exercise caution and drive at reduced speeds when encountering slippery road conditions.”

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
