Cranbrook resident speechless over $500k lotto win

An ordinary drive to work turned extraordinary for Michael Beauchamp after discovering he matched 4/4 Extra numbers from the June 20 Lotto Max draw, landing him a stunning $500,000 prize.

The Cranbrook resident purchased the ticket from the Petro Canada on Cranbrook Street North and was commuting to work when he decided to check his ticket using BCLC’s Lotto! Ap.

“I was on my way to work when I pulled over to check my ticket,” recalled Beauchamp. “I was shocked and had to ask myself, ‘Is this real?’”

Before resuming his drive, Beauchamp shared the news with his partner, Patti.

“I sent Patti a picture and asked her if it was real,” he recalled. “She’s the only one I’ve told so far and she was like, ‘Wow!’ She was super happy for me.”

While Beauchamp has kept his news low-key, he’s begun to look for a house to purchase and also looks forward to retiring sooner than expected, thanks to his windfall.

On how he feels about his ‘Extra’-big win?

“Speechless and phenomenal! I can relax a bit and start planning for retirement,” he said.

So far in 2023, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $20 million in winnings from the Extra and more than $133 million from Lotto Max. Say ‘Yes’ to the Extra for the chance to win up to $500,000.
