The Economics of Happiness screening in Cranbrook and Kimberley
The Economics of Happiness, a new documentary film that finds local solutions to global problems, is the November offering from Wildsight’s One Planet Film Series. The film will show in Cranbrook at the College of the Rockies on November 22 and in Kimberley at Centre 64 on November 30.
Both hard‐hitting and inspiring, ‘The Economics of Happiness’ demonstrates that millions of people across the world are already engaged in building a better world – that small scale initiatives are happening on a large scale. The film shows that countless initiatives are united around a common cause: rebuilding more democratic, human scale, ecological and local economies – the foundation of an ‘economics of happiness.’
“We’ve been talking about showing ‘The Economics of Happiness’ in Cranbrook and Kimberley since it came out about year ago” said Helen Sander, Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook Program Manager. “The film is extremely relevant to our communities and reinforces the value of initiatives many people in our area already support, such as, local food production, shopping locally and learning about our local environment.”
“We’d be thrilled if people from all walks of our communities come out to see the film” said Sander. “It’s of interest to small business owners, educators, food producers – actually anyone interested in seeing our communities full of happy thriving people. Admission is by donation, we’d love to see the theatres full to capacity.
The film includes voices and segments from six continents starting in Ladakh, sometimes called little Tibet, where producer Helena Norberg‐Hodge spent much of the past 30 years.
The film describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions: while government and Big Business push for a globalized economy based on high technology and increased trade, people all over the world are working from the grassroots to nurture smaller scale, ecological, local economies
The Economics of Happiness has received numerous awards at film fests all over the world and is described by David Suzuki as, “A powerful new film that cuts deeply to the heart of the global crisis. Magnificent!”
