Creston teacher charged with sexual assault

A teacher from Kootenay River Secondary School has been arrested for allegations of sexual offences against two students and Creston RCMP is seeking further witnesses.

On September 8, Kianuko Wayne Louie was formally charged with Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Assault, Criminal Harassment, Extortion, Telecommunications to lure a child under 18, and Possessing Child Pornography, under the Criminal Code of Canada, Creston RCMP reported.

It’s being alleged that while he was teaching at Kootenay River Secondary between October 2022 and June 2023, Louie engaged in these offences with students.

Louie was released from custody on numerous bail conditions, which include having no contact with the two victims. Additionally, he is not to go to any public park, school grounds, where persons under the age of 18 are reasonably expected to be present.

His next court appearance is on September 28.

“Some communications occurred over the internet, and possibly social media. Given this, it may be possible that other individuals may have knowledge of these offences, and simply haven’t come forward yet,” said S/Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk, Creston RCMP Detachment commander. “Police are wanting anyone who may have any knowledge of these offences to please come forward.”

“We recognize the profound impact such revelations may have on our community and the distress it can cause,” added S/Sgt. Buliziuk. “We’re urging anyone with information, or those who may have been directly affected, to come forward.”

If anyone has information, or who was directly affected, please contact the Creston RCMP (250) 428-9313 and quote file 2023-2044.
