BCWF holding 68th AGM in Kelowna
The BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF) is gathering in Kelowna for its 68th annual general meeting and convention April 11 through 13.
This weekend’s events are packed with fascinating speakers and plenary sessions on wildlife management, habitat restoration, cutting edge research, hunting, and angling. The Friday night fundraiser on April 12 features an auction, raffles, entertainment, and a complimentary wild game buffet dinner.
Among featured speakers:
- In Stewards of Splendour, author Jennifer Bonnell declares that British Columbians are at a critical juncture in their relationship with nature. By examining the last 250 years of environmental stewardship, from pre-colonial times right up to the present day, she captures stories of loss, misaligned values, cooperation, and hope for the future.
- Jen Shears is Newfoundland hunter, commercial fisherman, seal harvester, conservationist, activist, blogger, and business owner. She is an outspoken advocate of hunting and fishing, is passionate about getting women and children outdoors, and is a staunch believer in the power of positive messaging.
- Christine Everett grew up in Ontario in a hunting family, but never hunted by herself until her late 20s. After a year of personal life changes, she reconnected with nature while on a hunt with her dad. Since then, she started working for the lead Member of Parliament on hunting, fishing and firearms policy, has hunted many species of game across Canada, fished the beautiful waters along the B.C. coast and has become a vocal advocate for the outdoors industry.
The BCWF Awards Gala takes place Saturday, April 13, at the Coast Capri Hotel Ballroom where B.C.’s top conservationists will be recognized for excellence. Awards include the Barsby Conservationist of Year, the Art Downs Award for Conservation Journalism, the Roderick Haig-Brown Project Award, big game awards, and youth awards for hunting and angling.
“This annual gathering an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with B.C. leading conservationists and learn about the sector-leading work the BCWF does in the fields of science, advocacy, and boots-on-the ground habitat and wetland restoration,” said BCWF President David Lewis. “We look forward to seeing everyone and moving forward together for a better British Columbia.”
