Fernie Trails Alliance urges trail etiquette
The Fernie Trails Alliance is asking the public to heed springtime trail etiquette.
We are stoked to see the trails buzzing with riders, runners, hikers and furry friends as the snow continues to melt away!
Remember with the snow melt, comes muddy trail conditions. Using the trails in these conditions makes them harder to repair and creates extra work for our Trail Crew.
To help keep the trails in good shape, here are a few things to think about this spring:
- If you notice tire marks deeper than the knobs, footprints deeper than boot prints or mud sticking to your dog’s paws, it’s best to choose a different trail.
- Visible water. If you’re dodging puddles, this is damaging the trail by widening it.
- Freeze Thaw.
- During muddy conditions stick to heavily armoured, rock-based trails or paths.
- Drain the rain: clear a drain to help water flow back into the forest.
- Frozen trail.
The best place to check conditions is the Trail Forks reports.
